ℹ️ What is APA?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance is a refundable deposit — typically 30–40% of the base rate — paid before the charter to cover running costs: fuel, food and beverages, marina fees, and port taxes. Any unspent portion is returned to you at the end of the trip.

Market Context

⚠️ Rates are estimates only

Actual charter rates are set by individual vessel owners and brokers. This calculator produces market-range estimates based on 2026 MYBA data. For a firm quote, contact a licensed charter broker with the specific vessel in mind.

Understanding Yacht Charter Pricing

Yacht charter pricing follows a predictable structure once you understand the components. The base rate is just the starting point — what you actually pay depends on several additional costs that brokers are required to disclose upfront under MYBA contract terms.

The Three-Part Charter Budget

Most experienced charterers budget using a simple rule: base rate + 35% APA + 10% taxes/fees = total trip cost. On a $80,000/week charter that means roughly $116,800 all-in per week.

Stacked bar chart showing how charter costs add up: Bareboat 50ft totals $20,160, Crewed 60ft totals $75,600, Crewed 90ft totals $159,600 — broken down by base rate, APA, taxes, and gratuity
Base rate is typically 60–65% of what you'll actually pay. APA, taxes, and gratuity account for the rest.

What's Always Paid from APA

✅ Tip: negotiate the APA rate

APA is a deposit, not a fixed fee. If you plan a passage-heavy itinerary with minimal marina stops and modest provisioning, ask the broker to set APA at 30% rather than 40%. Any unspent amount is yours.

Peak seasons are opposite between the Med and Caribbean — shoulder season (May–June, September in the Med) offers 80–85% of the experience at 75–80% of the price.
